A line that Walks the Talk....PROJECT ALABAMA GREEN T

Imagine our delight when we opened our first shipment from PROJECT ALABAMA GREEN T!

FINALLY, someone who sells themselves as a "green line" doesn't waste huge amounts of packaging on each piece of clothing, only to be thrown away when it arrives at it's destination.....We know, we know what you are thinking: "Why can't stores recycle the plastic and tissue paper usually wrapped around individual piece of clothing?"

Well, these cannot be recycled....at least not in Los Angeles, which has one of the most progressive recycling centers in the country. You can recycle plastic bottles and cardboard boxes, sure. But not the rest.

PROJECT ALABAMA GREEN T neatly folded each piece of clothing-wrapped it in one single piece of tissue and tied it with fabric scraps-which we are REUSING.

Our "BIBLE" at Malgosia these days.....

Can't get enough of "DELUXE: HOW LUXURY LOST ITS LUSTRE" by Dana Thomas...a brilliant writer who tells us all about the Luxury Goods Industry, a $157 Billion industry (seems small compared to the $700 Billion Wall Street Bailout-except it's NOT) and where it stands today. It says a lot about our philosophy at MALGOSIA and why we have been moving in the direction we have been for some time.....AWAY from mass produced goods, AWAY from "Designer" Labels (Mostly Made in China, only good for one season before they are "O-V-E-R" to the Fashion World) AWAY from over priced, over licensed, over commercialized products.

A new movement is already underway and we're on board. Are you? If you are on the fence and just can't break your Marc Jacobs addiction, read this book. You'll probably change your mind.

SABYASACHI bounces back to Malgosia

Maggie here....
just got back from New York Fashion Week and wanted to write about one of my first finds when I was planning on opening Malgosia, the amazing SABYASACHI MUKHERJEE.....

I got to attend his show last week, which was stunning-as always....when I first met him in Mumbai, he was in his 3rd season, and now he is making his name on our shores. His collection was uber-positive, feminine, and full of bright colors. I am so excited about having him in the store again (he jumped around a bit between showrooms in the U.S.) and there was even a time when ELLE magazine wrote about him saying a neighbor store of ours carried the line-but that was wrong....and then he disappeared for a season or two. Now, he's back! You know how the fashion business can be:)

I was just excited to see his line develop and the lovely Caroline Ryder of VARIETY'S "Stylephile.com" covered him today....Victoria already placed an order for the amazing "Fish Scales" skirt and if anyone out there wants to also, I'm taking pre-orders. Namaste.

Victoria's September Favorites

Hand beaded dress by Suzie Wong

I screamed when I saw this come into the store! It's Cool. It's Modern. It's Hand-Beaded. If anyone out there wants to take me out in this dress, I'm game.

White Giorgio Brato bag

If you looked up Quality in the dictionary, you would see this bag. It's GORGEOUS Italian leather, hand-dyed and has tough-as-nails hardware. I want.

Swan dress by Miriam Ocariz

This Magnificent Dress is waiting for a Magnificent Event to go to...the quirky, utterly feminine Miriam Ocariz has done it again!

Maggie's September Favorites

House of Perrin "Shell" bag in Carmel/Off-White.

She Sells Seashells....I love how this bag looks like a shell! We are proudly carrying this 200 yr. old company, House of Perrin, at Malgosia. Friends of ours who recently moved from Paris to Los Angeles, and lucky for us brought their beautiful leather goods.

Marina Shlosberg "Russian Red" Dress

This exquisite hand crocheted lace and linen dress screams LOOK AT ME, but with class and elegance. It truly is made in Russia with techniques that were revived only after Communism came down.

Suzie Wong-Taupe Flapper Dress

I love everything related to this era…it is amazing how advanced and progressive things were for Women especially-BEFORE things changed…..And this dress makes me want to drink Absinthe and dance the Charleston!
