Costume Designer Extraordinaire & Cabo trip winner gets ready to hit MEXICO!

We are really excited to tell you about our friend and winner of the CABO trip (remember we said we were doing this?...well we had a very exciting give-away at our launch party)...The winner was none other than Hollywood Superstar Costume Designer, Betsy Heimann. She has designed the clothing and costumes from some of our favorite films: RESERVOIR DOGS, PULP FICTION, ALMOST FAMOUS, JERRY MAGUIRE, VANILLA SKY and many others. Here she is above while filming RUSH HOUR 2 in Paris with Jackie Chan...a woman's gotta hit the streets of Paris apres-work and here she is doing it.

As for some of our favorites....Remember these classic fashion moments??

THIS is quite possibly, one of Victoria's favorite all-time outfits-one that she has tried to reproduce many times over the years (wig included)-just can't ever wear out the cropped pants and white tailored top...She has loved these pants especially since the day she first saw PULP FICTION in a movie theater in Prague, when the film was originally released. Now, she gets to work with the mastermind behind the look! Serendipity indeed....

Here is the Rock 'n Rollers from ALMOST FAMOUS....who could forget that amazing coat Penny Lane rocked as the best Band-Aid in history? This movie truly made you feel like you were there in the 70s in the Sunset scene-and Betsy definitely designed it herself. Stunning!

FINALLY, this film is making it's way nationwide MARCH 5 and there is a red-carpet event here in Los Angeles in Century City. We will be there with our bells on and hope you can make it with us. This is a really amazing film about the power of Women in our World when we come together to help one another.

Following the film will be a live simulcast with Madeline Albright, Christy Turlington Burns, Natalie Portman, Nicolas Kristof and others who are Activists for Womens Issues. Yeah! Let's talk about this more.

Imagine our delight when we opened our first shipment from PROJECT ALABAMA GREEN T!

FINALLY, someone who sells themselves as a "green line" doesn't waste huge amounts of packaging on each piece of clothing, only to be thrown away when it arrives at it's destination.....We know, we know what you are thinking: "Why can't stores recycle the plastic and tissue paper usually wrapped around individual piece of clothing?"

Well, these cannot be recycled....at least not in Los Angeles, which has one of the most progressive recycling centers in the country. You can recycle plastic bottles and cardboard boxes, sure. But not the rest.

PROJECT ALABAMA GREEN T neatly folded each piece of clothing-wrapped it in one single piece of tissue and tied it with fabric scraps-which we are REUSING.

Can't get enough of "DELUXE: HOW LUXURY LOST ITS LUSTRE" by Dana Thomas...a brilliant writer who tells us all about the Luxury Goods Industry, a $157 Billion industry (seems small compared to the $700 Billion Wall Street Bailout-except it's NOT) and where it stands today. It says a lot about our philosophy at MALGOSIA and why we have been moving in the direction we have been for some time.....AWAY from mass produced goods, AWAY from "Designer" Labels (Mostly Made in China, only good for one season before they are "O-V-E-R" to the Fashion World) AWAY from over priced, over licensed, over commercialized products.

A new movement is already underway and we're on board. Are you? If you are on the fence and just can't break your Marc Jacobs addiction, read this book. You'll probably change your mind.

just got back from New York Fashion Week and wanted to write about one of my first finds when I was planning on opening Malgosia, the amazing SABYASACHI MUKHERJEE.....

I got to attend his show last week, which was stunning-as always....when I first met him in Mumbai, he was in his 3rd season, and now he is making his name on our shores. His collection was uber-positive, feminine, and full of bright colors. I am so excited about having him in the store again (he jumped around a bit between showrooms in the U.S.) and there was even a time when ELLE magazine wrote about him saying a neighbor store of ours carried the line-but that was wrong....and then he disappeared for a season or two. Now, he's back! You know how the fashion business can be:)

I was just excited to see his line develop and the lovely Caroline Ryder of VARIETY'S "Stylephile.com" covered him today....Victoria already placed an order for the amazing "Fish Scales" skirt and if anyone out there wants to also, I'm taking pre-orders. Namaste.

Magic 8 Ball reads...."WAKE UP AND SMELL THE CHOW MEIN...." Huh?

Victoria here....Maggie and I just had the funniest series of synchronicities as we sat on the terrace and planned for the extraordinary day we wanted to manifest at the store today....she told me all about watching the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, which I'm sure many of you saw. She talked about the awesome display of human cooperation and the hard-to-believe spectacle and truly breathtaking feat and the eery "08-08-08 at 8:08:08 PM start time! It just goes to show what the enormous amount of will power, discipline, and MONEY can create.....but kinda makes you go "hmmmmm" and wonder if the U.S.A. could do this. Currently at our rate of borrowing and or selling off to this giant, China, it doesn't seem probable. We can't even fix potholes 2 feet deep here in West Hollywood-one of the wealthiest parts of town....let alone fix our homelessness crisis....let alone provide healthcare to our citizens....let alone trust that our upcoming election won't be rigged....yada, yada, yada-you get the point.

I then began to read and share my two favorite astrologists' recent writings as I hadn't had a chance yet, each from their respective websites (which I highly recommend subscribing to! Many of you have been treated to their horoscopes in Malgosia)...Priya Kale and Eric Francis/Planetwaves. Priya's blog talked about her attendance at the last Police concert ever, in NY a few evenings ago....she referenced WRAPPED AROUND YOUR FINGER-which is my FAVORITE of their songs, and I told Maggie I always loved the line..."I will turn your flesh to alabaster. Then you will find your servant is your master." I said how the moment of crystallization that the tables have turned is priceless when you are the Master and terrifying if you are the one who is the Servant. And who hasn't experienced this in some form?

Maggie realized while watching the opening of the Olympics and the feat that the Chineese pulled off could be viewed as amazing and awesome but also quite intimidating at the same time...

The harmony and or the power of the collective of that nature with the strength and commitment of so many and each one of individuals in the mass of that country... intense.

Next we went on to read Eric's essay entitled "THE SPIRITUAL OLYMPICS (AND THE POWER OF 8)...which bore the brilliant title of this blog and our next synchronicity in this coffee talk. It is simply stunning how the number 8 plays into this culture, this event, this time we are living in. This article is worth the subscription to the website, especially since it comes with tons of brilliant writings, blogs, horoscopes and most importantly ADVERTISING FREE content....which is hard to come by at this juncture. It's as grass-roots as you can get and as you know, we love that at Malgosia. Go Planetwaves!!! And Eric has graciously let us share with you, so just click on the title.

We continued further and Eric concludes his essay with this:

"....wake up and smell the chow mein. China is all about power in the sense of un-evolved 8. They are leveraging their greed against the greed of the United States, loaning us $2 billion a day, most of which we send right back by way of purchasing their multitude of products. The Republicans used to be against this kind of thing, but remember that China as we now know it is a product of Republicanism.

When Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger opened up the modern economic history of China in 1972, which reinvented China into a trading partner rather than the Other Evil Empire, the whole idea was for the people involved to make money. China was granted the status of a legitimate business. Holding the Olympics there is the completion of the process begun by Nixon, which is granting China additional legitimacy and plenty of additional economic power. What they do with it is another question.

The Summer Olympic games used to be one of the most important psychic events in the life of our society. Time has obviously gone on, and we live in a more complex time, when we have a lot more to face in the way of so-called reality. I think it's interesting that among the top two concerns, apart from smog, about what might disrupt the games are terrorism and state-sponsored terrorism. The good part is we can look at the hosting government and say honestly that we don't know if it's our friend or not. This, I would call healthy skepticism. Maybe even progress. Let the games begin. "

This brought our discussion full circle. I guess the next question is, how do you spend your money? If you bought a $5.90 H&M dress (or insert any other "discount" store that allows you to "get your fill" with 4 bags in hand when you leave for under what some people in China make in a month of working) it was probably made in a factory (the legalized slave trade) by an 11 year old who never sees the light of day. But you don't have to.

Which begs this question: Who is the Servant and who is the Master now?

This film captures the essence of what MALGOSIA wants to be a part of-this movement of Women....This film is afilliated with one of MALGOSIA's favorite charities, CARE, which is helping other women make a difference in their lives and communities through education, economic independence, and cooperation with each other.

We cannot say enough about these heels from our favorite shoe line POUR LA VICTOIRE! We have these DOMINIQUE INDIANA heels in Midnight Blue now! Some of you know, we've sold out already in the Carmel colored version we had earlier this spring...then we got them in Sand, and now this rocking blue.

Victoria has the self-described "worst feet ever" and you will likely not see her running around a la Carrie Bradshaw in heels....UNTIL these came along. When the shoes first came in, she thought they were out of the question-then she wore them the first time for EIGHT HOURS STRAIGHT without so much as a twinge of pain...then again for another day, and that turned in several weeks of non-stop wear. She even called the designer David at PLV to tell him that these needed to be reproduced seasonally! Luckily she now has them in 3 colors....:)

Malgosia introduced Ms. Shlosberg and her talents to the editors of ELLE after Maggie met Marina through French friends last spring on a trip to Paris .

Malgosia and Coco de Mer: Erotic Intelligence

So, here we are….in the month of L-O-V-E and PLEASURE….ooh LA LA!

We’re very excited to have the world famous COCO DE MER coming to Malgosia for our pre-Valentine’s Day soiree this Saturday. Normally around here, we don’t need a reason to celebrate the idea of pleasure. At Malgosia, we do this regularly in the following ways:

by wearing beautiful clothing & jewelry made by artisans from around the world. this brings us so much fulfillment each day as we express the beauty we possess inside and showing it off for all to see….and by adorning ourselves for the Goddesses we are.
by enjoying the company of so many intelligent and gorgeous souls who cross our path…we are truly blessed to be located on such a fabulous street that really seems to be the Grand Central of Los Angeles-West Third Street.
by imbibing delicious champagne & wine, eating the amazing food that surrounds us (Food CourtLA and Joan’s on Third come to mind), as well as the occasional dance party that takes place on our terrace at our parties….

For those friends of Malgosia who can’t make it to the day of EROTIC INTELLIGENCE this weekend, stay posted here.
